Film Review: A Better Tomorrow (1986) - Hong Kong
A Better Tomorrow Chow Yun Fat John Woo Leslie Cheung Ti Lung
Andrew ChanA Better Tomorrow (1986) - Hong Kong Review by Andrew ChanRecently undergone remastered work for a 4K HD release is John Woo's iconic action classic - A Better Tomorrow. The best release in terms of picture quality and sound to date, makes this a thoroughly enjoyable experience for long time fans to rejoice. Who can forget the moment when Chow Yun Fat famously burn the counterfeit US dollar note. Or the infamous Taipei restaurant scene where Chow hides guns under the plants and launches with double handed guns blazing. Or the scene where Ti Lung confronts Leslie Cheung on wanting...
Film Review: Tai Chi Master (1993) - Hong Kong
Chin Siu Ho Jet Li Michelle Yeoh Tai Chi Master
Andrew ChanTai Chi Master (1993) - Hong Kong Review by Andrew Chan Viewing on the best possible version available, the Dragon Dynasty Blu Ray, it plays well enough on my TV screen without being perfect with the typical flaws find in many 90s Asian cinema releases. Still, Tai Chi Master is an amazing exhibition for both Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh to show their highlight martial arts reels. It helps when the director in chair is master Yuen Woo Ping and costarring Chin Siu Ho as Li's best buddy turned foe. This is an all time classic and the fight sequences...
Film Review: The Sleep Curse (2017) - Hong Kong
Anthony Wong Herman Yau Jojo Goh Michelle Wai The Sleep Curse
Andrew ChanThe Sleep Curse (2017) - Hong Kong Reviewed by Andrew ChanScreened at this year's HKIFF, veteran of the gore fest genre Anthony Wong and Herman Yau reunites for the blood thirsty Horror/thriller Sleep Curse. It's been a long while since the pair made the 90s cult classics in Ebola and Untold Story and this one is rather tame in comparison save for two standout opening sequence and finale. Which isn't necessary a bad thing, but those looking for outright gore and shock horror will not be totally impressed. The Japanese occupation and traitor segments seem like a totally different film...

Du Juan Ethan Juan Luo Dong New York New York
Andrew ChanNew York New York 紐約紐約 (2016) - China Review by Andrew Chan The film depicts the underlying struggle of young people striving to leave China in the 90s in hope of the American Dream. The story centres of two particular incompatible couple who are constantly torn between, love, country and future. Alluding to Wong Kar Wai's thematic nature of meeting the wrong people and bad timing, the film succeeds in Ethan Juan and Du Juan's selfish interactions and subtle chemistry. I rated it 3/5Out on DVD and Blu Ray at: https://neofilmshop.com/search?q=new+york
