Synopsis
“Mad Phoenix” is a gem of a talent in the world of Cantonese Opera in the 1920’s and 30’s. He is the thirteenth son of Old Master Kong in the late Qing Dynasty. When he is a child, he burns the curtain of his schoolmaster’s office to avenge a righteous cause. In his university days, he gives up his studies and goes to Shanghai in pursuit of the girl he loves. During the war, he is so disgusted with the way the shows for the servicemen are conducted that he beat up the troupe manager. He leads a miserable life after the war and is once sent to mental hospital for suspected insanity. He spends his last years alone and in destitution…
