At the appointed day hundreds of car enthusiasts from all over the nation gather at a motel on the east coast starts to the west coast across the United States, that is "the Cannonball is on!"
Among the contestants are J. J. McClure (Burt Reynolds), and is slightly unhinged mechanic (Don Deluise) who, in moments of stress, assumes the guise of his alter-ego, the comic book hero, Captain Chaos. Farah Fawcett is their passenger, so to speak. Sammy Davis Jr. is a lucked out Las Vegas high roller partnered by played out racing driver Dean Martin. Jackie Chan and Michael Hui play an Oriental racing team driving a computer Subaru. Roger Moore is Seymour Goldfarb Jr., heir to a foundation grament fortune who thinks he is really a famous British secret agent whose real name is Roger Moore. Of course, everyone has their own idea of how to beat the field……
