"Sada" follows the entire life of Sada Abe. From the age of 15 when she was raped, to her descent into prostitution, and the crime of passion which became a national sensation.
On the night of May 19th, 1936, Sada Abe, a Japanese geisha, was seen and arrested on the street of Tokyo, carrying an emasculated male genital in her hand… Sada's story has inspired Oshima Nagisa's controversial masterpiece, IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES, in 1976. This equally sensational remake is directed by Obayashi Nobuhiko and starred Kuroki Hitomi, the female lead of PARADISE LOST. The film was awarded the International Film Critics Prize at Berlin Festival.
