Director Dante Lam brings the action in the crime thriller Operation Mekong starring Zhang Hanyu (The Taking of Tiger Mountain) and Eddie Peng, in his third collaboration with Lam after Unbeatable and To the Fore. Inspired by real events, the crime action blockbuster sends Chinese officers into the Golden Triangle, the notorious drug-producing region of Southeast Asia, for a thrilling barrage of special ops action and shootouts.
In October 2011, the 13 crew members of two Chinese cargo ships were shot to death on the Mekong River, which runs through the Golden Triangle, and a large amount of drugs were recovered from the crime scene. The Chinese government dispatches an anti-narcotics task force led by Gao Gang (Zhang Hanyu) to the area to investigate. There Gao teams up with intelligence officer Fang Xinwu (Eddie Peng) for a dangerous mission that takes them deep into the lawless jungles of the Golden Triangle and the lair of ruthless druglord Naw Khar (Pawalit Mongkolpisit, Bangkok Dangerous).
