In this action-packed flick, shot in entirely in English at Melbourne, Australia location, clearly targeting the International market, with the rise of Hollywood’s Jackie Chan shines in a role that showcases his signature blend of martial arts prowess and comedic charm. Directed by the legendary Sammo Hung (also appears in a scene stealing cameo), the film follows the adventures of a humble TV chef caught in the crossfire of a dangerous gang seeking revenge.

Chan's athleticism and impeccable timing are on full display, delivering adrenaline-pumping fight sequences that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. However, the lack of a one-on-one final climactic showdown (i.e. with Richard Norton) may disappoint some viewers, as the film opts for a different big bang approach to its resolution, leaves a bitter aftertaste.

Miki Lee and Richard Norton deliver adequate supporting performances, Lee brings a touch of youthful elegance to her role, while Norton exudes menace as the villainous leader of the gang, creating a formidable adversary for Chan's character, pity their only fight sequence is an handicapped one.. While the plot may feel somewhat formulaic at times, the film excels in its execution of high-octane action and comedic moments.

Despite its deviation from the traditional final showdown trope, "Mr. Nice Guy" is a solid if forgettable entry in Jackie Chan's filmography, offering a fun and entertaining experience for fans of the action genre. With its blend of humor, heart, and jaw-dropping stunts, this film is sure to delight audiences looking for a thrilling ride as Chan embarks to his Hollywood journey. (Neo, 2025)
