The film depicts the underlying struggle of young people striving to leave China in the 90s in hope of the American Dream. The story centres of two particular incompatible couple who are constantly torn between, love, country and future. Alluding to Wong Kar Wai's thematic nature of meeting the wrong people and bad timing, the film succeeds in Ethan Juan and Du Juan's selfish interactions and subtle chemistry.
