“Godzilla Minus One” is a 2023 Japanese epic kaiju film directed by Takashi Yamazaki. Produced by Toho Studios and Robot Communications, it is the 37th film in the Godzilla franchise and the fifth film in the Reiwa era. The film's visual effects steal the show, showcasing the awe-inspiring presence of Godzilla and its destructive power. While the acting and story are average, whenever Godzilla appears on screen, the film reaches its peak.

Set in postwar Japan, the story follows a former kamikaze pilot suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after encountering the giant monster known as "Godzilla." However, the film fails to explore the character's psychological journey in depth, leaving the audience wanting more substantial development.

Despite its shortcomings, “Godzilla Minus One” captures the essence of the franchise and provides an entertaining experience for fans of kaiju films. The remarkable visual effects bring Godzilla to life, immersing viewers in the grandeur of the creature's presence. Although the acting performances are average and the story lacks surprises, the film succeeds in delivering thrilling moments whenever Godzilla takes center stage.

In conclusion, “Godzilla Minus One” relies heavily on its impressive visual effects, which remain the film's strongest aspect. While the acting and story may not be exceptional, the film satisfies audiences with its captivating portrayal of Godzilla. Fans of the franchise will appreciate the return of the iconic monster and the destruction it unleashes upon the screen.

I rated it 7/10
